Mammals belong to the group of vertebrates, which are animals with a backbone. Almost all of them have four limbs and live on land. Despite some people include the flying squirrels, colugos and gliding possums among the mammals that can fly, bats seem to be, however, the only flying mammals. The other animals mentioned before can only glide for a limited distance.
There are over 1000 different bat species in the world. You can find bats that consume different varieties of fruit, most of them (around 70 percent) live mainly on insects (that can be counted in thousands per day!). Some bats typically live to be 30 years old, but the life span for bats is approximately between 10 and 20 years.
